Trainer/Consultant



Position Summary



The Midwest Academy, a national training institute for progressive 
organizations, is seeking a full-time Trainer/Consultant to be based in 
Chicago.



The Trainer/Consultant will work with other Midwest Academy training 
staff to conduct our five-day Organizing for Social Change training 
workshop for organizers, from a wide variety of progressive 
organizations. S/he will also travel as needed to provide onsite 
training and consulting to organizations. This position reports to the 
Executive Director.



Responsibilities

Conduct training workshops on the skills of direct action organizing, 
including strategy development, choosing issues, recruiting and 
developing leadership, and meetings with decision makers

Conduct trainings as part of the Academy’s Supervising Organizers Workshop

Assist in Designing Curriculum

Conduct onsite training and consulting for client organizations

Responsibilities related to Internship and Fellowship programs

Assist Development Director with individual and foundation fundraising



Qualifications



Five to ten years experience as a direct action organizer in a variety 
of settings, including some combination of local, state and national 
issue work, electoral work, and/or union organizing

Demonstrated strong commitment to building progressive institutions

Experience working with diverse constituencies

Fluent Spanish language skills, both written and oral

Willingness to travel extensively (non-negotiable)

Supervisory experience with a progressive, non-profit organization

Excellent interpersonal, written, organizational and project management 
skills

An entrepreneurial attitude, balanced with the ability to respect 
co-workers, board members, and clients

Excellent computer skills including mastery of Word, Excel, Access and 
PowerPoint
