EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR / ORGANIZER

For Organized Neighbors of Edgehill

Organized Neighbors of Edgehill is an active neighborhood organization 
in Nashville, TN that links public housing residents, private housing 
residents, schools, and churches to take action on common concerns in 
the area, such as crime, housing, and neighborhood development.

The mission of ONE is to be an organizing force to improve the quality 
of life in Edgehill by connecting people and resources for the 
betterment of the community.

THIS POSITION HAS TWO MAIN COMPONENTS:

Administrative (80%) and Neighborhood Organizing (20%).

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES INCLUDE:

1. Coordinating ONE's neighborhood office – visitors, phone, e-mails, 
files, etc.

2. Working with ONE's Board on financial and administrative matters

3. Some grant-writing, record-keeping, and reporting

4. Representing ONE at meetings of United Way and Community Shares

5. Administrative work for ONE projects, including Community Garden, 
Scholarships, Housing Program, and Family Resource Center.

NEIGHBORHOOD ORGANIZING DUTIES INCLUDE:

1. Meeting with residents & stakeholders, discerning neighborhood 
priorities.

2. Assisting ONE's leaders in:

-- Building ONE’s membership and new leadership

-- Partnering with police and various agencies, based on ONE's priorities

-- Taking action to resolve neighborhood problems.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THIS FULL-TIME POSITION WILL HAVE:

SPECIFIC PERSONAL QUALITIES, including

-- Being a self-starter, requiring little supervision;

-- Being flexible, but detail oriented and able to balance many tasks;

-- Being a “team player,” working with other staff, board members, 
residents;

-- Be comfortable with many groups of people: residents, police, 
officials, etc.;

-- Be a “people person” -- outgoing and enjoying listening to residents.

-- Able to handle and process conflict.

SPECIFIC SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE, including

-- Administrative experience, including fiscal management;

-- Experience in grant-writing and reporting;

-- Familiarity with neighborhoods and community organizing;

-- Organizational skills and problem-solving ability;

-- Communicating well, both orally and in writing;

-- Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and Internet 
programs.


College degree preferred. Some nights and weekends. Salary $35,000.
