Bronx, NY, March 2010 – Common Law and Picture the Homeless have forged
a strategic partnership and launched a free legal clinic for Bronx
homeowners in foreclosure that aims to provide vital tools to assist
Bronx homeowners facing foreclosure reach affordable and sustainable

In New York State, homeowners with sub-prime loans facing foreclosure
must attend mandatory settlement conferences. Homeowners then have the
opportunity to negotiate with the lender in front of a Judge to reach a
settlement. Previous settlement conferences only included homeowners
that possessed subprime loans. However, they have been recently expanded
to include all homeowners.

“Sadly, less than half of the homeowners attending settlement
conferences have legal representation,” said Common Law Co-Director Jay
Kim, Esq. “The recent expansion of settlement conferences will
exponentially increase the number of homeowners in need of legal
representation and resources in the coming months.”

In response to this need, Common Law and Picture the Homeless have
partnered together to launch a bi-weekly Legal Clinic for homeowners
representing themselves at settlement conferences. The clinic will
provide homeowners with the resources to confidently navigate the
settlement conference process; determine the affordability of their
mortgage payments and; submit completed loan modification applications
to service providers. Common Law attorneys will be on hand to provide
advice and consultation and guide homeowners with accessible and clearly
written materials to assist them at settlement conferences.

The Legal Clinic takes place bi-weekly on Tuesday evenings at offices at
Picture the Homeless located at 2427 Morris Avenue, Bronx (Take #4 or D
train [last car] to Fordham Road).

Homeowners interested in attending the Legal Clinic should call Common
Law to schedule an appointment @ 718.305.1676. Folks can also contact
Picture the Homeless (PTH) to schedule an appointment @ 646.314.2423

The next Clinic will be on Tuesday, March 9th at 6pm
