Grassroots.org Social Venture Consulting Program:
Spring 2008 Application Due December 21

We are now accepting applications for our Spring Social Ventures 
Consulting Program.

Application is open to all registered 501c3 US Nonprofit and Canadian 
Charitable Organizations.

Program benefits:

    * Professional project-based consulting:
          o Valuable in-kind grant opportunity
                + 60-90 hours of dedicated professional consulting
                + Consulting valued at $150/hour
                + Total in-kind value: $9,000-$13,500
    * Opportunity to develop a specific project or initiative:
          o Categories
                + Strategic Planning
                + Fiscal Management
                + Board Development
                + Outcome Management
                + Human Resources
                + Volunteer Management
                + Fund Development
                + Technology

Program details:

    * Takes place over the course of a school semester, and involves the 
following phases:
          o Information-Gathering
          o Project Scope and Planning
          o Implementation
          o Evaluation / Review
    * Consultants are first-year MBA students at the University of 
Maryland's Smith School of Business
          o Average of 5 years of work experience
          o Selected to participate based on their work experience and 
interest in the nonprofit sector (believe it or not, the selection 
process is very competitive, even though the students are not paid!)
          o Wide range of skills and interest areas. Past consultants 
have had experience in everything from software development to 
environmental policy.
          o Matches made based on student interest area and experience
    * Consulting may be in-person or virtual, depending on location of 
nonprofit organization.
          o DC Metro Area nonprofits are especially encouraged to apply, 
but application is open to everyone (this fall, 50% of selected 
organizations were from outside the area, including groups as far away 
as New Orleans and Houston)
          o Travel Grant enables students the option to apply for a 
funds to visit their organization in person (so even if you are far from 
Maryland, you may have an in-person meeting!)
