organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. Its mission is to promote 
the development of community organizing as a national force for social 
and economic justice.   Founded in 1968, it is known for its role in 
supporting the national and grassroots coalitions that led to the 
creation of the food stamps program, the enactment of the Community 
Reinvestment Act, the growth of Community Development Corporations, and 
large-scale preservation of low income housing.  More recently, the 
Center led efforts to secure a refundable child tax credit and restored 
food stamp eligibility for thousands of immigrant households.  For

Position Description:  The Program Assistant will assist the Immigration 
Team in advancing the principles, base building and legislative 
objectives of the Fair Immigration Reform Movement 
(, a project of the Center for Community 
Change.  The Program Assistant will provide administrative support and 
coordination to the Immigration Team.

Principal Responsibilities:

          o Coordinate the day-to-day administration for the Immigration 
          o Provide administrative support including filing, copying, 
faxing, mailing and typing.
          o Schedule meetings and logistics for FIRM; and staff 
meetings, prepare materials, and arrange conference calls.
          o Take and distribute minutes of the Immigration Team meetings.
          o Manage database for FIRM and Immigration Team.
          o Act as main contact to public for FIRM.
          o Act as a liaison to other departments of the Center, 
particularly Finance and Operations, representing the Immigration Team.
          o Provide administrative support to the Immigration Team Leaders.
          o Perform other duties as assigned by the Team Leaders.


          o Ability to perform detail oriented work with 
          o Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
          o Ability to prioritize tasks and problem-solve.
          o Highly organized and dependable.
          o Knowledge of a variety of office equipment.
          o Ability to record notes and transcribe into a legible 
document for distribution.
          o Computer literate, proficient with Word, MS Office, Excel 
and Power Point.
          o Experience with financial paperwork and systems.
          o Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
          o At least 5 years experience in meeting and event planning.
          o Commitment to social change through community organizing.
          o Fluency in language(s) other than English preferred
