Stand for Children 

Job Opening

 

Position:                      Organizer (Nashville and Chattanooga)
Salary Range:            $25,000 to $33,000, with the possibility of
significant future growth. Full medical and dental benefits.  

Date Required: Position Available Immediately in Nashville and 
Beginning
of March in Chattanooga. 


 


Background:

Stand for Children is a nationwide citizens group that lobbies for
funding for child care, schools, and other essential children's
programs.  

 

Led by volunteers, Stand for Children successes in Tennessee include:

*	Winning a commitment to build three new schools and provide
funding for school nurses, guidance counselors, and educational
assistants in Rutherford County. 

 

*	Winning $200,000 in city and state funding for Nashville
Supports Early Education Staff (SEES), an innovative substitute child
care teacher program created by Nashville Stand for Children.  
Nashville
SEES will enable child care teachers to access daytime training and 
help
maintain low staff-child ratios in their absence.  

 

*	Helping to defeat harmful state legislation that would have
lowered child care licensing standards and adult: child ratios in child
care centers.

 

With a cumulative budget of just $393,000 over the past four years,
Tennessee Stand for Children has won more than $3 million in funding 
for
critical children's programs and services.

 

At a point when significant organizational expansion is possible, Stand
for Children seeks to hire a passionate, effective Organizer to help
build and expand Stand for Children Chapters.

 


Qualifications:


.       Deep desire to effect lasting policy changes for children.

.       Self-starter.

.       Ability to relate effectively with and motivate a diverse range
of people.

.       Available to work irregular hours, including evenings and
weekends, and able to travel (must have access to car).

.       Advocacy or organizing experience, experience working with
children, understanding of policymaking process.
