POSITION OPEN:  Program Coordinator II

The USC Prevention Research Center is beginning a three-year
community-based participatory research project to design, implement and
evaluate a social marketing intervention to promote physical activity. 
A full-time Program Coordinator will be hired for the project.

Under supervision of the principal investigator, and in cooperation
with the project team, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for
developing, implementing and evaluating the social marketing
intervention.  Duties include:
· Identifying community organizations, groups, and individuals for
project participation; 
· Recruiting and coordinating efforts of volunteer members of the
project Steering Committee; 
· Coordinating training of community volunteers; 
· Conducting key informant interviews; 
· Arranging and conducting focus groups and neighborhood meetings; 
· Developing intervention objectives and project plans; 
· Designing health education and other program components; 
· Identifying market segmentation for health promotion message
· Participating in pilot testing of health promotion messages for
Sumter County residents; 
· Coordinating community education and promotional activities; Keeping
records for evaluation purposes; and 
· Assisting with reports and presentations.

Master's Degree in Public Health or a closely related field (such as
Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, etc.) with a focus on health promotion
and education preferred, and two years of relevant experience required. 
Must have knowledge of the principles, practices, and theories of health
promotion and education.  Experience in community interventions and
community health development is required; knowledge of and prior
involvement in participatory research and/or social marketing is
desired.  Skills in community organizing and volunteer recruitment and
motivation are required.  Must have outstanding written and spoken
communication skills and have the ability to communicate effectively
with community members.  Must be independent, self-motivated,
detail-oriented and able to work with limited supervision.  Must have
computer skills.  

This position is in Sumter, SC. Preference will be given to current
Sumter County residents or those willing to relocate to Sumter.  Some
evening and weekend work is required.  


This is a temporary research grant position for a three-year grant
project.  Salary is commensurate with experience.  The employee will be
eligible for benefits including annual leave, sick leave, health/dental
insurance, and the State of SC retirement program.
