JOB-POSITION OPENING

STATEWIDE CAMPAIGN ORGANIZER
Welfare Reform & Public Job Creation Issues

Community Voices Heard, a membership organization of low-
income people on welfare based in NYC is seeking an 
experienced organizer to build and manage a statewide 
campaign in New York State focusing on TANF Re-
Authorization (Federal Welfare Reform), job creation and state 
welfare reform issues. This position will be based in NYC, but 
with a larger percentage of statewide travel, a large focus of 
which will be the Hudson Valley to Albany.   

The Statewide Campaign Organizer will be responsible for:  

·	Identifying groups and constituencies interested in welfare, 
job creation and other anti-poverty issues;  

·	Building relationships with upstate organizations and 
individuals in key districts through- out the state, to work on 
welfare, job creation and other anti-poverty issues;  

·	Building networks of local individuals on welfare to support 
CVH campaigns and issues;  

·	Providing technical assistance, training and information to 
help mobilize local community organizations and people on 
these issues;  

·	Organizing statewide meetings and actions with interested 
organizations and individuals focusing on TANF and welfare 
reform issues.  

Qualifications  

·	2+ years experience in Direct Membership, Legislative, 
Electoral and/or Issue Organizing;  

·	Experience organizing community forums, meetings and 
large scale actions;  

·	Excellent with computers, writing and speaking in public;  

·	A basic understanding of the state budget process, 
welfare reform and job creation issues is highly desirable;  

·	Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team;  

·	Spanish Language ability is desirable but not required;  

·	Ability to work long hours, and to work away from NYC for 
periods of time, including traveling around NYS.  

The Statewide Campaign Organizer is a temporary position.
