Back to School: Community Groups and School Reform

http://www.nhi.org/online/issues/sf118.html

The July/August issue of Shelterforce magazine looks at
school reform through the lens of community organizations.
Schools are, after all, essential components of successful
neighborhoods. But for too long the work to improve them has
been separate from the rest of community development.
Articles from leading practitioners and thinkers in
community-based school reform efforts tackle questions like:
What are community groups doing to organize for better
schools - and what obstacles are they facing? How can we
move beyond local school efforts and make district-wide
changes? How is developing school facilities different from
developing housing? How can community leaders and school
leaders learn to work together, despite differences in
organizational culture, responsibilities, and priorities?
These articles will interest community developers and school
reformers alike.
