Political Director, Service Employees International Union, Local 100 (New
Orleans, LA)

Primary Responsibilities (80%)
Coordinate the all political activities of the Local, in conjunction with
the other political director, state council director, chief organizer, and
international staff, including:
          --coordinate lobbying efforts and issue advocacy campaigns;
          --establish Member Political Organizing (MPO) training schedule;
          --coordinate COPE (Committee on Political Education) (PAC)
fundraising efforts;
          --coordinate GOTV (Get Out the Vote) efforts, including voter
registration, phone banking.

Secondary Responsibilities (20%)
Research Director, HOTROC, AFLCIO
          --compile information and maintain database for the Hospitality,
Hotel, and Restaurant Organizing Council of Greater New Orleans (HOTROC);
          --keep abreast of any new, major hotel (or other tourism) related
development in the Greater New Orleans area;
          --keep abreast of current public policy geared towards tourism,
labor, and economic development issues as they relate to New Orleans;
          --compile, analyze, and/or report findings on the various issues
concerning hospitality and tourism workers, as needed;
          --assist with media relations, media outreach, and information
dissemination.

Skills Needed
Understanding of the political process, on local, state, and federal
levels; ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data sources;
excellent communication skills (both written and oral). Excellent time
management and organizational skills a definite must.

Qualifications Desired
          --Bachelor's Degree in  Political Science, Sociology, History, or
related field
          --At least one to two years' experience in political organizing,
community activism, or labor drives or campaigns
          --Working vehicle and the ability to drive
          --Passion to see things change for the working families of New 
Orleans

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and previous experience, but
typically starts in the low to mid 20's, plus a fairly extensive benefits
package.     The position reports directly to the Chief Organizer of SEIU,
Local 100.
