What is the AmeriCorps*VISTA Program?

VISTA ("Volunteers in Service to America" ) is a national 
service program sponsored by the federal government offering 
volunteers a modest stipend in exchange for their commitment to 
a year of working to strengthen communities and improving the 
lives of people in need.

Who is the Minnesota Housing Partnership?

The Minnesota Housing Partnership (MHP) was incorporated in 1989 
as a membership-based, nonprofit organization designed to unite 
advocates and developers from across the state in their efforts 
to alleviate the shortage of affordable housing.

Who is a VISTA Leader?

VISTA Leaders coordinate and provide support to AmeriCorps*VISTA 
volunteers in their efforts to address the needs of low-income 
communities. Leaders serve as role models and trainers who 
strengthen the leadership capacity of VISTA volunteers, their 
projects and community members.

Responsibilities of the Position: * Provide support for up to 30 
VISTA volunteers serving Fall 2001 - Fall 2002 * Identify 
training needs and create training activities for VISTAs on a 
variety of topics * Recruit, select and place VISTAs in housing 
organizations statewide for the next service year beginning 
August/September 2002 * Undertake special projects, time 
permitting and based on the interests of the VISTA Leader, in 
the area of organizational development

Qualifications for the Position: * Completion of one year as an 
AmeriCorps*VISTA or two years as a Peace Corps volunteer * 
Strong communication skills; ability to relate well to people, 
incl. those of diverse backgrounds * Knowledge of or strong 
interest in community organizing, housing issues and policies, 
or organizational development in a nonprofit environment * 
Preferred experience: - recruiting, managing and supporting 
volunteers
