POSITION AVAILABLE -- CHICAGO

POLICY ASSOCIATE

FIGHT CRIME: INVEST IN KIDS ILLINOIS is the state branch of a national
organization of police chiefs, sheriffs, prosecutors and victims of
violence.  The Illinois project is a partnership with the Illinois
Center for Violence Prevention.  As a public education and advocacy
organization, FIGHT CRIME supports public investments in programs which
cut crime by helping kids get the right start in life, including quality

child care, after-school programs, and prevention of abuse and neglect.
FIGHT CRIME: INVEST IN KIDS ILLINOIS is in search of a full-time policy
associate to continue building this campaign in Illinois.

Responsibilities:

o Research:  Work with Illinois and national FIGHT CRIME staff,
leadership, and Resource Council members to identify Illinois specific
research needs that will advance organizational policy recommendations.
Produce research reports consistent with those needs.

o Outreach:  Participate in identifying and recruiting new members in
the law enforcement and crime survivor communities.  Work with members
to prepare and schedule presentations.  Represent FIGHT CRIME as a
speaker when called upon.

o Networking:  Work in collaboration with youth service agencies , state

and local crime prevention and child advocacy organizations, and state
government officials to discuss, initiate, and monitor policy and
program initiatives consistent with the evidence on what works to keep
kids from becoming criminals.

o Other Responsibilities:  Work with the rest of the staff in
coordinating legislative advocacy and initiatives to garner media
coverage efforts for FIGHT CRIME and our issues.


Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have significant knowledge of
the issues facing children and youth as well as a demonstrated ability
to communicate complex public policy issues in terms understandable to
the general public.  Legislative, organizing, and media experience
desirable.  Experience with design and maintenance of computer databases
would also be desirable.  Excellent writing and communication skills
required.
